Have you ever caught yourself reacting out of pure habit?
You get an upsetting message, and before you even process it, you’re already typing a response.
You feel anxious about a situation, and suddenly, you’re overexplaining, overanalyzing, or over-apologizing. You sense uncertainty in a relationship, and your instinct is to fix it—immediately.
We’ve all been there. But what if, instead of reacting, you paused?
The Uncomfortable Truth About Stillness
For most of my life, I thought action was always better than inaction. If I felt something intensely, I had to do something about it. Sitting with it felt like failure.
So I’d react angrily when a boss told me something, I’d get triggered when I saw an email from someone addressing something I didn’t like. I’d feel upset by someone’s behaviour.
But the truth? The real power is in the pause.
Neutrality isn’t about passivity—it’s about building the muscle to hold space for your emotions without letting them drive your next move.
I started practicing this by making small shifts:
Instead of reacting immediately, I took a few deep breaths.
Instead of chasing answers, I allowed the discomfort of not knowing.
Instead of fixing, I let things unfold.
And the results? Mind-blowing.
Conversations played out differently because I wasn’t bringing my old wounds into them.
I saw situations more clearly because I wasn’t clouded by knee-jerk reactions.
I felt calmer, more in control, and less desperate for resolution.
And here’s the kicker: Things actually resolved themselves better without my interference.
Now, I want to hear from you—what’s one moment this week where you chose neutrality instead of reaction? Hit reply and tell me. I’d love to know.
Before you go…
This shift—learning when to pause, when to observe, and when to act—is a game-changer. It’s something I cover in depth in my work because how we respond to life shapes everything.
And speaking of change, I’ve got something exciting to share…
